About the International Baccalaureate (IB) |
After experimenting, in the initial years of school life, with the implementation of both the Italian and British national curricula, in May 2005 the BSM/Play English decided to introduce the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. The IBO philosophy on education with its sound guiding pedagogical principles seemed to be aligned with and supported the Bilingual Education pedagogy the School was promoting. The introduction of the IBO programs could only reinforce the School's practice and create a solid foundation for a single and common curriculum to be taught through the medium of two languages. The Bilingual model of education is still pretty new and innovative for the Italian context. Therefore, it was important to search for a valid curriculum with international status which would also serve to validate the course of studies a Bilingual school like the BSM/Play English was offering.
The School is now an IB authorised school and this means to be part of an international schools network with an internationally recognised status and quality in education. Students at the BSM/Play English will not only benefit from a pedagogical valuable curriculum, which will enable them to become life long learners, but they will also have in the future the opportunity to access multiple educational systems including the Italian national one. This opportunity of choice seems to be very appealing to many families when in the process of selecting a school for their child/dren. |
