LIBRARY and MEDIA CENTREThe library and media centre play an important role in the whole learning process. The media centre is equipped with a computer lab, laptops, internet access, TV, projectors and an interactive whiteboard where pupils can go during normal lesson time to carry out research for their inquiries.
We have a full time library clerk who not only takes care of the general organization and running of the library, but also works closely with the teaching staff and children integrating literature into the units of study. Besides, she is taking care of the library blog, where teachers and parents can find useful hints and suggestions on how to make the reading experience with kids the best possible, as well as some suggested books for any age: libraryplayenglish.wordpress.com In the library of the media centre, students and teachers have access to a variety of resources, such as fiction and non fiction literature, journals, DVDs, and other audio-visual materials. Our vast variety of library BOOKS is almost 23,000 volumes and is accessible to the whole school community. Library opening hours: Monday to Friday from 4 to 5.30 Tuesday from 4 to 4.30 Parents are welcome to visit the library during openings hours, and at the end of the school day with their children. MUSIC ROOMMusic is fundamental in the life of BSM’s students. This is why we have created an interactive music environment that involves students and inspires them to new challenges.
Our music room equipment creates a lively learning space, with instruments coming from all over the world in order to widen childrens' knowledge and experience. Children get so involved they don’t think about learning — they just do it, and they love it while they do. GYMNASIUMAll our students are expected to take part in the PE activities, from Pre-School to Middle School. Therefore we have designed a space suitable to meet the needs of children of such different ages. XXX m2 wide, the gym can host up to XX children and it is provided with sports (e.g. basketball and volleyball) and psychomotor activity equipment. For the outdoor activities we can count on our big all-weather surface playground and the Monza Park in the nearby.
LUNCHROOMStudents, teachers and staff enjoy lunch together in the colorful and spacious lunchroom, at different timing for Pre-school, Elementary and Middle School, so that food can be consumed in a relaxed and not noisy environment.
Pamir Ristorazione is in charge of preparing meals that are then served by our lunchroom staff. The menu varies according to the season and includes a wide choice of first and second courses to provide children with proper nutrition education. Children following special diets can count on menus especially designed for them. |
ATELIERThe Reggio Emilia approach has influenced and enriched our teaching and learning practices as well as our general philosophy to education over the years. Our school has participated in many Reggio Emilia “study tour” events and our learning environment displays some Reggio Emilia influences.
One of the most significant influences has been the introduction of the “Atelier” and “atelierista” concepts. This involves the use of a designated and well structured “art studio” area with a suitably qualified and experienced art teacher (atelierista). The purpose of the Atelier is to offer children the space and the opportunity to express their innate creativity as another language of communication. Our children and teachers in both the Early Years and Elementary school engage in art projects which evolve within the PYP framework of Units of Inquiry and are supported in their learning and teaching by our school’s qualified art specialist. The Early years pupils carry out their project work in small groups in the Atelier while the Elementary pupils do so in their classrooms. |
